Another Paddling Session

Back to the Dysynni for more work

I managed to fit in another session over at Tywyn today.

During the week I had begun to make some modifications to the boat. I found the seat back to be nothing but a hindrance. With a little persuasion it was removed. To do so required taking the whole seat out. Refitting it was a bit tricky for my hands. The right one is just fine and dandy. Lucky that, it’s the one I use for picking my nose. The left one, however is a little more sinister. Most of the time it behaves adequately. Now and again, not so much. This little job which entailed removing just 4 Allen screws took the best part of two hours. I needed a little sit down after that. During this operation I discovered that the original fitter had been a little less than accurate with the creation of the slot required for the seat to move back and forth. Duly modified it was reassembled.

On actually using the seat in its position I discovered why it had been uncomfortable in the first place. The whole seat needs to move back at least a couple of inches. The seat will need to be removed and attacked with an angle grinder.

In its current location it is just a little too far forward for my liking. I like to feel as though the boat is merely an extension of myself. The pedals will need bulking up a tad as the ideal position is in between two points and the thigh rolls will need adjusting again. Then the boat will be in balance.

Why so picky you might ask. The reason is this. The boat naturally wants to right itself after a capsule. That much I have ascertained from just a couple of sessions. This will come in handy when I roll it.

At the moment I’m a little wary of doing this although it’s very familiar to me. So familiar that I can do it in my sleep. I came too the other morning and in that twixt state I was rolling it. I’m wary because I get out of breath in spite of all the Qigong I do. The thought of falling over and not having the strength in my arms or the mobility in my hips to effect a clean roll and thus being stuck upside down and not being able to breathe. I know that I’ve been often told that I’m talking out of my arse but I haven’t perfected breathing through said orifice.

So it’s back to the shed with it whils I tinker and get it right.

I’ve got a busy week up ahead with all sorts of medical appointments and getting my hearing aids serviced so I won’t be getting out til next weekend.

Peace Out Brothers (and Sisters)
